World Life Sciences Foundation (WLSF)
WLSF Origins and reason for being: As a result from BioVision and BioMarine meetings, it became obvious that ambitions shared by science, industry and society in applying life sciences to humanitarian goals need more than an impressive conference held every other year. Building on that observation, BioVision decided to create the World Life Sciences Foundation in 2006. The creation of the WLSF constitutes both the logical extension of the BioVision approach and a direct response to the issues and questions raised therein.
The WLSF reason for being is to facilitate the move from Vision to Action. The WLSF wants to facilitate and accelerate the transfer of progress made in life sciences into concrete achievements to serve humanity.
WLSF The mission statement of the WLSF is to provide efficient contributions to the Millennium Development Goals, especially by developing global partnerships for development. The WLSF wants to be a key vehicle to implement efficiently and effectively the Millennium Goal 8, namely: “to develop a global partnership for development”.
The WLSF will achieve its mission by selecting existing projects proposed by stakeholders and by establishing all necessary partnerships to the efficient achievement of such projects. Criteria selection of the projects:
- Multi-stakeholder partnerships: existing or expected collaboration between different partners representing industry, society and science and/or participation of the population who benefits from the project;
- Sustainable value model: economic viability, usefulness and effectiveness;
- Well being of humanity: clear contribution to human development and environment protection;
- Multi-dimension projects: Social, environmental, economic and cultural concerns.
The WLSF will distribute and communicate widely all results and experiences from the projects. This will be done at regular conferences organized by BioVision as well as through publications distributed on the Internet.
The WLSF website is currently under construction – for more information on the WLSF please e-mail: elise.tabet@biovision.org
