Pre-conferences

BioVision has adopted a new architecture which took the 2007 World Life Sciences Forum into an action orientation. A series of Pre-conferences prepared the Parallel Conferences of the Forum so that these can be more dynamic working sessions that produce recommendations for actions.

Each Pre-conference was organized by a Partner (from Science, Society or Industry) expert in the topic, in close liaison with the Chairs of the 2007 Forum Parallel Conferences.

The purpose of a BioVision Pre-conference is for an expert group to explore and develop one of nine topics within the BioVision Forum three core areas of Health, Agriculture/Food and Environment and in relationship to the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) theme. The Pre-conference set the stage for the debate, discussion and recommendations for action during the 2007 BioVision Forum. The invited experts were asked to identify and frame the questions for debate:

1) What are the priority problems? What can Science do? What is the viewpoint of Society? What can Industry do? What Governments and International Organisations should do?

2) What are the linkages and the interrelationship of the three core areas to one another – Health, Ag/Food and Environment to take into account to contribute to the achievement of the MDGs?

3) Two thirds of the Pre-conferences are dedicated to the Millennium Goals, and one third to salient issues within the realm of the development of life sciences.
