114 students were selected, after a careful selection of over 800 applications.

The gender split was 46 % Male - 54% Female

51 nationalities were represented.

50% of applicants are under 32 years of age

BIOVISION.NXT, BACKGROUND HISTORY

  

Since 2001, BioVision, the World Life Sciences Forum, invites promising PhD students and post-docs to attend the 3 days forum in Lyon, France with a fellowship programme called BioVision.Nxt.  

BioVision.Nxt

  • offers a unique opportunity to bright students in Life Sciences and related fields from the best institutions/universities from around the world, to attend the forum and broaden their perspectives,.
    • creates a unique dialogue between those who made a breakthrough in Life Sciences and those who will make the news tomorrow,  
    • aims at fostering dialogue on the impact of Life Sciences future developments on society in both the Western world and developing countries.  

The BioVision.Nxt Alumni represent an important and active group of 380 persons throughout the world at present (before the 2011 edition).

Before & after the BioVision forum:

  • BioVision.Nxt fellows have a dedicated website to communicate … www.biovision.ways.org
  • City visits, workshops and presentations help the fellows to prepare for their active participation
  • A creativity seminar favours initiatives amongst the Nxt on themes discussed during the BioVision sessions  

During the BioVision forum

    • Attend the BioVision sessions (15 satellite events, 36 scientific talks, 12 round tables, 6 plenary sessions, 4 business workshops) 
    • 4 exclusive sessions are organised by the Alumni (scientific advances, business in science, the Nxt network and a Nxt Award) 
    • A BioVision.Nxt lounge is dedicated to the Nxt meetings, centrally located in the conference center 
        • “Coffee with…” sessions, or 30 minutes informal chats with BioVision speakers.  2011 guests: Nobel Prize laureates Françoise Barre-Sinoussi (Medicine, 2008) and Ada Yonath (Chemistry, 2009), Philip Campbell (editor in chief, Nature), Jacques Delort (VP Prospective Strategic Initiative, Sanofi aventis), Helga Nowotny (President, European Research Council), Benoit Miribel (President, NGO Action contre la Faim and Director of the Fondation Mérieux), Stanislas Dehaene (Director, Cognitive Neuroimaging Unit, Inserm-CEA), Olivier Raynaud (Senior Director, Global Health and Healthcare sector, World Economic Forum), Bernard Munos (InnoThink Center for Research in Biomedical Innovation).
